Carter Benton Candidate Profile
Carter Benton is the Commissioner-Elect for Grimes County Precinct 2 and will take office on January 1, 2027.
A longtime Grimes County resident, Carter has called the county home for more than 20 years. He and his wife, Dr. Jaime Benton, have raised their three children here and have built their careers, businesses, and lives around serving the community they call home.
Carter is a United States Navy veteran, former educator, small business owner, and active community volunteer. He earned his degree in Social Studies Education from Centenary College of Louisiana and later a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Lamar University. As a former teacher at Navasota High School, he had the opportunity to educate and mentor young people from across Grimes County.
In addition to teaching, Carter owned and operated a successful landscaping company and manages multiple rental properties. That experience has given him a practical understanding of budgeting, long-term planning, property ownership, accountability, and the importance of responsible financial stewardship.
Service to the community has remained an important part of Carter’s life. He has been actively involved with Ducks Unlimited, including serving as chairman of the Navasota Ducks Unlimited banquet, and has volunteered his time supporting local students and athletics, including serving as a high school powerlifting judge and covering Anderson-Shiro Football as a volunteer sports reporter for the Navasota Examiner.
His approach to public service is centered on conservative Christian principles, fiscal responsibility, private property rights, responsible growth, and unwavering support for law enforcement and first responders.
Above all, Carter believes effective local government requires integrity, accountability, common sense, and the ability to work with others. He looks forward to serving the residents of Precinct 2 and working alongside fellow county officials and community leaders to ensure Grimes County remains a great place to live, work, raise a family, and call home.
