My name is Greg A. Mock and I am running for Grimes County Commissioner Precinct 4. Born and raised in Grimes County, I have always maintained my permanent residence here even during the brief time I was away at college. I graduated from Navasota High School in 1984 and Texas A&M University in 1989 with a degree in Agriculture Economics. I came back home to eventually begin my own small business and then partner with my brother at Mock Brothers Cattle Company. We provided a crop protection and crop nutrition service for farmers and ranchers primarily in Grimes and surrounding counties. Tending to Range & Pasture and hayfields was our specialty. I’ve made my living in the fields of Grimes County. I understand the challenges and struggles, but also the rewards of small business and production agriculture. We still raise cattle and produce hay. Farming and ranching is a wholesome kind of life and I’m glad I raised my children in it. I married my wife Michelle thirty years ago. Our three children all graduated from Navasota High School and went on to graduate college with one becoming a lawyer, one with a Masters of Anesthesiology, and a construction Field Engineer. Having been employed for the past thirteen years with two different multi-billion-dollar corporations, I have experience with the large corporate world also, but I always come back home to my roots here in Grimes County, where I was born and raised.

I’ve been a part of the Grimes County Fair Animal Committee that my kids showed in as well as serving on the Grimes County Little League Board for the nine years that my son played. I served three consecutive 2-year terms on the Grimes County Appraisal Review Board and was chairman for the last two years.  This was a great learning experience for me, and I gained valuable insight into property valuation and ad valorem taxes as well as conducting formal meetings. As a result, I was able to interact with Grimes County property owners and the Grimes County Appraisal District to come together and find common ground. Many times, the decisions I had to make were not easy, but I always strived to be fair and consistent with appraisal district guidelines.

In 2015 I was elected to the Navasota ISD Board of Trustees. I’ve maintained my position on the NISD Board to this day, defeating a challenger in 2018 and running unopposed in 2021 and 2024. Of the eleven years I’ve been on the NISD Board, I’ve been President for four years serving two, 2-year terms. NISD’s budget is similar to the Grimes County budget, although the scope and funding model is much different. We have been able to lower the tax rate for NISD over the past nine years while passing two bonds bolstering our facilities to accommodate our growing student population and having a renewed focus on Career & Technology.

All these experiences have set me up to be your best choice for Grimes County Commissioner Precinct 4. I will bring this lifetime of experience, service and volunteerism to Commissioners Court on day one.

Grimes County has a bright future ahead with many opportunities. With these opportunities there will be many challenges and tough decisions to be made. We need someone who will bring common sense and no-nonsense decision making with a vision for the future and a love for our heritage. Balancing growth with preserving rural culture is what I stand for. There are some things that I will absolutely fight against and have no compromise. NO HIGH-SPEED RAIL cutting our County in half!

One of my top priorities is to support law enforcement at every level. When communication, collaboration, and coordination break down, chaos ensues. It’s imperative that Grimes County Commissioners Court equips our men and women in Law Enforcement with all the latest technology and resources they need to keep this county and its citizens safe. This also goes for our partnerships with local fire departments, including the many Volunteer Fire Departments and all Emergency Medical Services.

Another priority is our Road & Bridge Department. I commend the efforts of our County Judge and Commissioners as well as our County Engineer, however, I believe a renewed focus on this area could bring some needed improvement.

Many times politicians promise things to different groups. My promise to ALL the people of Grimes County is I will listen and make common sense, no-nonsense decisions.
