Utilities & Free Markets

Every two years, thousands of grassroot Republican voters from around Texas gather at a State Convention. This gathering determines what it means to be a Republican in Texas.

One of the most important ways this happens is the development of the official platform of the Texas Republican Party. This document lays out in pain staking detail what the Texas Republican Party believes - not everyone agrees with everything - but it is a pretty amazing document.

The Grimes County Republican Party would like to remind Republican voters what we are fighting to support by highlighting various planks of our Texas Republican Platform.

Plank 43 Utilities says:

"We support free-market solutions that provide resilient, affordable, and reliable utilities. Texas should:

a) Require electric utilities to provide fair compensation, including credits for excess electricity generated by residential and small-scale producers.

b) Require transparent and independent reviews of proposed utility infrastructure projects, including impacts on ratepayers, private property, natural resources, and community values.

c) Require large industrial consumers, including data centers, to provide and finance their own water and infrastructure needs without shifting costs to residential or small-business property owners.

d) Oppose the use of eminent domain for private utility or industrial projects.

e) Allow voter approval of utility rate increases through local elections.

f) Amend Section 251.107 of the Texas Utilities Code to designate the project manager as the point of contact for the Texas Notification Center."

The Texas Republican Party understands that free-market solutions can provide resilient, affordable, and reliable utility services!
